Before anything else, understand which licence you actually need. Many people apply for the wrong category and face problems later.

Most people applying for the first time need both MCWG and LMV if they want to drive both a bike and a car. Applying for both together at the same time saves a second visit to the RTO later.

Step One - Learner's Licence

The driving test is conducted by an RTO officer at the designated test track. For LMV you drive a car through a marked course. For MCWG you drive a motorcycle through the same. Driving Licence Renewal - When and How

A permanent driving licence in India is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the age of 50 - whichever comes first. After that it needs to be renewed every 5 years. Many people forget about renewal until they are stopped at a check post or their insurance company flags it. Driving with an expired licence is a traffic violation and carries a fine.

International Driving Permit - For Those Travelling Abroad

If you are planning to drive in a foreign country, your Indian driving licence alone is not valid in most countries.
